How to Choose Between the Different Types of Manicures

How to Choose Between the Different Types of Manicures, Montreal Manicure

Your nails say so much about who you are, which makes keeping them in great condition all the more important. It is crucial that they remain healthy and vibrant!

Manicures are an excellent way to help maintain healthy nails and cuticles while simultaneously showing your unique style. But how can you choose between all the various kinds of manicures available?

Basic Manicure

Basic manicure treatments involve filing, buffing and shaping nails as well as cuticle care by a technician. After applying base coat and color polishes to your nails, then topcoat to seal in their beauty, the treatment ends with hand massage and cuticle oil for healthy looking hands.

Miss Pop recommends against cutting your cuticles as this could increase your risk of nail infections. She states: “Cuticles provide a seal around each nail bed to ward off germs; by cutting them they will swell up and become dry, leaving more vulnerability for hangnails to form.”

Acrylics, gels and dip powder nail applications have gained in popularity due to their long-term staying power; however, these applications can be hard on natural nails. A simple manicure with traditional nail polish is much gentler on natural nails – and far less costly to have done! Plus you can easily redo it later using nail polish remover and cotton rounds!

French Manicure

No matter your nail length preference – be it short, long or somewhere in-between – there’s sure to be an ideal manicure out there for you! Salon owners, nail artists and beauty writers (who have tested all possible types of manicures without shame) share their advice for selecting the ideal one for yourself.

A French Manicure offers an effortless yet polished appearance. This trend first gained popularity during its peak years of the 1990s and early 2000s but remains classic today, pairing beautifully with any look or outfit. Double french manicures or new glass French manicure trends offer additional variations – try solid-colored tips instead of the traditional strip to further elevate this timeless beauty trend!

Gel Manicure

Structured gel manicures add a protective layer of rubber-based nail polish that strengthens natural nails, mends broken free edges (say goodbye to hangnails!) and covers up ridges or discoloration on them. However, applying all these layers takes patience and skill if they’re to be used successfully to produce natural-looking nail bases.

Gel nail polish lasts between 2-3 weeks without chipping and peeling like regular polish does, while its application requires brushing on color layers, curing them individually, then adding top coat and cuticle care as part of its manicure process.

Arnold notes that although this type of manicure can damage nails if performed by an inexperienced technician or using incorrect removal techniques, as long as you visit a CND Shellac-certified salon and expert nail technician it should be non-damaging. Since CND Shellac polish breaks down naturally over time without needing scraped off manually and should cause no discomfort during its removal, Arnold calls this process non-damaging manicure.

Acrylic Manicure

Acrylic nails have long been a beauty trend and can be found at salons across the United States. Crafted of liquid and powder products applied with a brush (typically Kolinsky sable), the nails are then cured using either LED or UV lamps for permanent results.

Manicure services typically end with the application of a top coat and polish to the nails, offering strength, durability, and an array of designs for customers to select. Unfortunately, however, they can cause damage to natural nails as well as have an intensive removal process.

Minerva emphasizes the importance of finding a technician that uses high-quality products and performs flawless nail art application. She advises avoiding salons that use methyl methacrylate for this service as this may damage nails; opt instead for ones using ethyl methacrylate which has less harmful repercussions.
