These shades work for light and dark skin tones alike, creating stunning results and complementing each complexion perfectly. Selecting the appropriate hue can make your manicure stand out!
Cinnamon Coco
Warm, muted brown hues make an excellent choice for almond-shaped nails. Their neutral tone keeps the look more natural, and can be worn either alone or combined with different hues that increase in intensity to create an ombre effect.
No matter what name it goes by, tonal looks are becoming more and more fashionable in 2023. Offering a smaller alternative to elaborate nail art trends that have taken over our lives recently and being low maintenance with little effort needed for look put-together.
Celebrity manicurist Michelle Humphrey, who counts Dua Lipa and Adele among her clients, recommends this hue when pairing glass bottle green and dark purple shades together for autumn manicures. Michelle refers to it as a modern take on syrup nails – perfect for autumn!
Tammy Taylor of Tammy Taylor Nail Studio suggests greige as an attractive autumn nail shade option, telling Bustle it provides “an effective way of being bold without going too crazy”. With its hint of grey that gives it a retro aesthetic and being flattering on all skin tones and looking particularly stylish when combined with matte finishes.
Chocolate Milk
Zendaya and Hailey Baldwin have recently returned to traditional chocolate milk nails as they embrace this classic shade that embodies their ideal cup of coco. Chocolate milk nails come in various depths that suit different skin tones – for those with cool undertones a rich coco brown shade would work well, while those with warmer undertones could find light coffee hues more suitable.
An excellent way to upgrade the chocolate hue in your manicure is to add subtle patterns or designs. Nguyen suggests using stencils to create mocha swirl designs similar to popular desserts like mocha pie. This look pairs nicely with short square nails; for something less bold, consider round tips or coffin nails instead.
And to really amp up the mocha look, try layering multiple shades of neutral polish. This technique is often called mocha ombre, latte nails, or rainbow French manicure (though more subdued), and has been seen on everyone from Keke Palmer to Zendaya and Hailey Baldwin – fans are going wild over its minimalist elegance!
Matcha Green
Matcha green nails make an earthy yet chic statement during fall, offering an earthy yet chic alternative to brighter hues. It looks fantastic as frenchies or layered over dark bases for an eye-catching effect – an increasingly popular look among celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Adele for their recent concerts.
Jan Arnold, a nails guru who counts Zendaya and Selena Gomez among her clientele, notes that 2024 manicure trends include an elevated, muted palette of neutrals and earth tones for clean girl manicures. “Muted colors allow people to express themselves without overwhelming with too many hues,” according to Jan. She adds that these shades give an “invitation back into the 70s which remains very fashionable”.
Red nails once had their day in the spotlight, but have since faded while other hues such as blue and glazed pink have gained the favor of celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Hailey Baldwin, Kylie Jenner. Arnold predicts a comeback of classic red hues such as forest red or burgundy reds.
