Shellac Nails Vs Gel Manicure

Shellac Nails Vs Gel Manicure, Montreal Manicure

There are so many choices when it comes to getting your nails done, but what exactly is the difference between gel and Shellac nails?

Shellac nails (sometimes referred to as ColourGel manicures ) combine traditional nail polish with gel nail polish, making the combination easier for removal with acetone.

Longevity

Gel and shellac polishes both offer long-term beauty for nails with proper application and removal care, but gel may last longer and provide superior chip resistance, while shellac dries faster and is gentler on natural nails, potentially contributing to better nail health.

Shellac nail polish is an innovative hybrid product from CND that combines traditional nail color with the durability and protection offered by gel polish to avoid chipping and dulling of regular polish, says Tamara DiLullo, CND Education Ambassador and nail artist. Shellac’s patent was granted and it launched for commercial sale in 2010 after five years of development by CND’s designers and patent holders. According to DiLullo’s testimony and research it provides long-term protection from dulling, chipping and breaking common with regular polish, says CND Education Ambassador Tamara DiLullo.

Shellac can dry faster than gel polish and be removed in five minutes with an acetone-based nail polish remover, but should still not replace UV lamps during manicure processes as your nails may still be susceptible to damage if they are naturally fragile or dry.

Maintenance

Both types of manicures can last up to two weeks with different maintenance needs: gel manicures require extensive soaking, wrapping and scraping of product off natural nails to be effectively removed, while shellac is less damaging and can be removed easily with acetone at home.

Both are excellent options for long-lasting, high quality manicures; the right choice depends on your individual needs and nail health. If your nails need additional support and strength, gel manicures may be your ideal solution.

Shellac nails offer a more natural and thinner appearance if you want your nails to breathe while staying healthy, yet both options can make your nails beautiful. Just remember to visit a trained nail technician regularly so as to maintain healthy nails after every manicure appointment.

Safety

Gel and shellac nails are great ways to create long-term wearability with beautiful results, without chipping easily or chipping quickly. Unfortunately, both options carry risk: regular manicures can damage natural nails if polish is removed too quickly or incorrectly from them; additionally, moisturizing nails and cuticles regularly is key for their health and happiness.

Safety when receiving gel or shellac manicures depends on several factors, including your nail technician’s experience, product quality and your personal nail health. If your nails are particularly fragile or thin, it might be best to wait until they strengthen further before taking another approach at polishing them.

As opposed to Acrylics, Gel polish does not cling as tightly to natural nails, reducing damage. But it may still chip and peel if removed improperly or applied over already damaged, brittle or dry nails. Shellac provides more gentle coverage with its faster soak off process that only requires acetone; and its thinner polish helps give nails some breathing room.

Cost

Shellac and Gel polishes both offer long-wearing solutions cured under UV lighting, but shellac manicures have some additional advantages over regular gel manicures – including longer wear time and an easier removal process.

Shellac manicures begin with an application of base coat, followed by two colors and topcoat that are each cured under UV lights for 30-60 seconds, before being buffed and prepared for nail art.

CND Shellac was developed through years of rigorous testing, to combat dulling, chipping and break down caused by traditional polish. According to Tamara DiLullo of CND education ambassador Tamara DiLullo’s salon trained and certified by CND as well as DIY kits are both options for applying CND Shellac manicures.

However, Shellac can have its drawbacks that should be considered when getting a manicure. Both its application and removal can cause cuticle dryness and nails to split open; to maintain healthy nails you should apply nail oil at least twice daily to keep them moisturized. Likewise, both Shellac and gel require using an acetone-based remover which contains harsh chemicals which could potentially harm natural nails if misused improperly.
