Types of Manicures
No matter your nail art needs – longevity, strength or simply fun designs – there are numerous manicure options to suit them all. Additionally, proper care and removal help maintain healthy nails between treatments.
Acrylic overlay nails combine liquid monomer and powder polymer to form a hard protective shell on natural nails, lasting usually 2-3 weeks and easily removed using acetone for removal.
Classic
An affordable basic manicure is an ideal way to treat yourself with some quick and affordable pampering. Your nails will be shaped, buffed and oiled before having their polish applied as usual.
Nail design allows you to express yourself creatively. Nail technicians or enthusiasts use various techniques and tools such as nail polish, gems and stickers to craft eye-catching patterns and designs on nails.
Dip powder and acrylic nails both apply over your natural nails, with the former using colour powder (similar to paint) and sealing it off with an activator before being sealed to your nail bed, while the latter uses plastic tips sculpted over them for extra length. Both options can be applied using gel and are resistant to chipping; however they should be refilled every 2-4 weeks as your natural nails grow longer.
Gel
Gel manicures offer a sleek, polished finish that lasts 2-3 weeks. They dry instantly and may look more natural than traditional nail polish; however, their longevity depends on how they’re applied – being sure your nails are free of oil or lotion prior to application, then using a lint-free cloth afterwards to wipe off any debris on them is key!
Even though gel nail polishes are more durable than their regular counterparts, they still chip and break. To prevent this from happening, be sure to have both a nail file and your preferred shade on hand to patch any color gaps quickly and easily.
Acrylic
Acrylic nails have long been one of the most sought-after nail enhancement techniques. Constructed using a mixture of liquid monomer and powder polymer, acrylic lengthening enhancements are created using this technique and then can be customized according to individual preference based on shape, size and color preferences.
Lee notes that one of the main hazards associated with acrylics is wearing them past their recommended lifespan and neglecting to get regular “fills.” To extend their longevity, use a cuticle pusher and cuticle oil before getting your treatment completed.
If you are new to acrylics, it is advisable to practice on a training finger or hand first before attempting them on natural nails – otherwise, the risks of damaging natural nails and allergies could increase significantly.
SNS dip
SNS dip nails use a pre-blended powder that’s mixed into a liquid solution before application, creating harder, more durable nails that are less prone to chipping.
SnS manicures don’t require UV light curing, making them an excellent option for anyone sensitive to chemical odors or who suffer from allergies to polish or gel polish. Salon owner Yvonne Venage-Mohl notes that her clients love how the dipping powder doesn’t have an “acrylic smell” like traditional polish or acrylics do.
To give yourself an SNS manicure, your manicurist will apply a base coat, then brush on resin. Individual fingers will then be dipped into color powder before an activator sealant is used to set the finish touch.
Extensions
If you prefer long and thicker nails, extensions could be just what’s needed to create that effect. Choose between traditional acrylics or the more natural-looking gel options to get started today.
Both types require routine care, including regular touch-ups and buffing sessions to remove ridges from nails for easier polish application. Furthermore, healthy cuticles must be maintained by gently pushing back cuticles while trimming away loose skin rather than cutting it away.
Nail art can be achieved with either type of extension, though gels tend to be better at producing intricate designs. Plus, their low odor and less damaging nature makes them suitable for frequent applications.
Shellac
Shellac nails are an innovative hybrid between nail polish and gel polish that’s applied and cured under UV LED lights in a salon. This process causes molecules both small and larger in the product to bond together for an aesthetically pleasing, long-term manicure.
Nails that last up to two weeks typically boast beautiful sheen, making them the ideal solution for active lifestyles as they resist chipping.
Noting the importance of keeping Shellac nails away from hot water for extended periods, as this may cause them to lift and peel. Regular application of hand moisturizer can also help maintain strong nails.
