3D nails have become a trend in fashion shows, celebrity looks and Instagram. Their unique textured appearance can be tailored to all seasons with various colors and nail art accents to complete the look.
Crafting intricate, original designs takes time and expert skills, but here’s everything you need to know to achieve that look.
How to Get 3D Nails
Nails provide an outlet for self-expression, and one of the newest trends is 3-D nail art. With intricate designs ranging from intricate patterns and embellishments to entire scenes, 3-D nail art takes your manicure to another level. While it might appear intimidating at first, getting started is actually very straightforward with only basic supplies required for getting started.
Pick Out Stickers
3D nail stickers offer an abundance of designs, colors, and textures for you to select the one(s) that best complement your nails and personal style. After application, use either a rubber cuticle pusher or your finger to smooth any creases or bubbles in their application process.
For instance, when going for an aura nail look like this 3D bow-accented design by @nailsbyvayne, opting for neutral colors will ensure they match with almost every outfit. If you have specific designs in mind before going shopping for supplies to avoid waste.
Preparing Your Nails
If you want to experiment with 3D designs on your nails, be sure to start off by creating a clean canvas by filing and pushing back cuticles before applying a base coat.
Next, choose from various sticker types depending on the design you’re trying to achieve. Adhesive stickers are easy to use for simple designs while gel ones may require UV lighting for added dimension. Finally embossed stickers provide texture on your nails.
For this popular 3D nail art design, all that’s necessary is a clear base coat, Chrome Pigment (we used Prism here), and Clear 3D Studio Gel. To create swirls using this method, apply small dot of clear gel onto each nail before molding chrome powder around them using Detail 02 Brush and curing and sealing with no-wipe top coat to prevent any smudging or chipping of the design.
Getting Started
Beginning 3D nail art can be daunting for newcomers. From brushes of various sizes to rhinestones and glitter, there is a multitude of supplies to choose from if one wants to craft three dimensional art. Finding inspiration first before purchasing any materials can lead to successful designs; friends’ nails, celebrity styles and magazines provide great resources.
